Pavement

– Morley Baer

Influenced by Duchamp’s philosophy of ‘found art’ and the notion of looking for beauty in the mundane and the ordinary, I wanted to explore what the built environment communicates to us through photographing found compositions on the pavement. People rarely look down (or up), yet there is a surprising amount of subliminal message to be found at our feet.

What does the built environment communicate to us? How does the built environment shape the development of culture? How much can we tell about a person from their shoes?

Pavement is a photodocumentary series exploring our built environment and the subtle clues and secrets the pavement reveals about culture and how we respond to that urban environment.
