Dundundra Falls

What struck me first
As we descended to the creek
Was the tree ferns
How enormous and ancient and silent they were
Standing vigil,
Sentinels of this place for who knows how long
Tall and regal they tower high above
Gently swaying in breezes not felt on the ground

This place is old and wild and timeless,
Jurassic
The water running endlessly over sandstone
Creates percussive music
An orchestra of gentle splashes and plops
Echoing off the canyon walls
As it rushes along and pours down holes
Carrying leaf jewels and massaging tree toes as it goes

Time moves differently here
There is no room for the business of modern life
Of the corporate world, of digital devices
It’s gift is an invitation to let go, become still
A reminder that you are a child of the earth
and to connect with being alive
