I was thrilled to be invited back to DaRkStAr in Brookvale to perform 3 original pieces at Episode two.
My spoken word pieces are ritual dismemberment and resurrection poetry. This isn’t polite poetry. It’s a rite, a reckoning. A stripping down to truth. This is poetry that kills illusions, burns facades and reclaims what’s been buried. Ritual dismemberment poetry is the art of killing what’s false so the soul can breathe again.
The first piece, the Great Grandmother Tree, is a reflection written while sitting beneath my favourite tree – an enormous old Angophora that stands on the edge of a cliff on West Head, overlooking the entrance of the Hawkesbury River.
The second piece is called RUOK and explores the delicate dance of mental health in workplace culture.
And the third is called Shadow Dance, exploring the difficult work of acceptance and reintegration of the whole self.
