I moved to Wollongong mid-2025. And I’m so glad I did! I keep meeting amazing people and being inspired by the creativity and the calibre of talent here in the Illawarra. One of the things that I’m loving is the incredible and vibrant music scene. There are so many talented musicians here and a large number of bands. In particular, brass street bands. Which as a sax player, is right up my alley.

A few months ago, I joined one of those street bands. It’s an all-women feminist band called the Femme Fatales. I saw them playing at a gig and just had to join. Honk Oz was my first time playing a gig with them – and my first time experiencing the Honk festival. I also loved participating in the Femmebrella workshop and joining the Honk parade with the Femmes and our painted feminist umbrellas.

I had such a great time! I loved Honk and was so inspired by the bands I saw. The energy, the vibe and the pure joy these bands bought was just magic. Can’t wait to do it all again!
