It was a lot of fun creating monster plushies in Lady Sketchy’s Debaucherous Drawing Room!
We started with exploring how to draw monsters – using shapes, expression through eyes, monster characteristics such as horns, claws, teeth and tails. We then created group Exquisite Corpse monsters. This allows us to collaboratively build on each other’s ideas and create something delightfully unexpected. Everyone then drew up a monster design they wanted to create as a plushie.
After a tea break, we looked at how to create a pattern for our basic monster shape. Once our patterns were drawn up, it was time to choose our fabrics and cut out our pieces. We then sewed them together and filled them with stuffing! Finally, everyone added elements such as buttons for eyes, hand stitched scars or monster hearts. Some people chose to alter an existing plushie by adding new elements.
And voila! Monster plushies. None of them looked much like the original design sketches, but part of the fun and beauty of the process is expecting the unexpected and delight in what the end result turns out to be!
Thank you to all who came along to Lady Sketchy’s Monster Plushies. There will be more events, so watch this space! ![]()
